Steven is a seasoned professional with close to a decade of expertise in investment banking, management consulting, agribusiness, agri-finance and food systems.
He is currently the Head of Food Systems at WFP Ghana, coordinating the utilization of $40m of funding from donors in advancing WFP mandate to improve food and nutrition security by tackling inefficiencies that characterize agricultural value chains in Ghana.
Prior to that, he served concurrently as a Senior Advisor on Agriculture to The Whitaker Group, and as a Senior Consultant and Advisor to the Ministry of Finance’s $50 million Ghana CARES Agricultural Program. In the latter role, he was responsible for operationalizing 50,000 acres of across the country, aimed at reducing the national food import bill while enhancing Ghana’s food security and self-sufficiency efforts.
During his time at the Ministry of Finance, he developed the business case and investment appraisal, implementation work plan and the capital allocation strategy that secured an initial $3 million towards the infrastructural development of the 10,000-acre Southern Economic Enclave Rice project in Kasunya, Greater Accra Region.
Steven transitioned to the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) which was mandated by the Ministry of Finance to Project Manage the 50,000 acre Economic Enclave across three 3 regions. At MiDA, he served as Project Manager responsible for operationalizing all Economic Enclaves.
He also successfully secured $6.1 million from the Mastercard Foundation to support 5 years worth of production working capital for the 10,000 acre Southern Economic Enclave while being instrumental in securing $80m financing from the Ministry of Finance to support agricultural infrastructural developments across all 3 Economic Enclaves.
He was also key influencer in forging WFPs partnership with MIDA and the Ministry of Finance where he provided technical support to WFP Ghana in securing the $7m Changing Lives Transformation Fund (CLTF).
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Steven is deeply committed to philanthropy, having successfully raised and secured more than $90,000 over the past decade to support initiatives in education, agriculture, and social protection.
He began his career as an investment analyst at Goldman Sachs in London before joining agri-focused private equity firm Sagevest Holdings in Accra as a Senior Analyst. Steven is a multi-disciplinary thought leader and has co-authored several thought leadership articles – the “African Globalizers Report 2017”, “African Sovereign Wealth Fund Index 2018” and “Africa’s Agricultural Productivity Conundrum Report” (2020).
He holds a Masters in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Ashesi University. In 2014, through the Ashesi University Foundation, he was conferred Resnick Leadership Scholar by the Aspen Institute, USA in recognition of his social entrepreneurship initiatives while at Ashesi.
